The New Moon in Gemini arrives on May 22. A chatty, inquisitive, communication- forward moment, the section of the sky that contains Gemini is loaded by the time the New Moon rolls around. Sitting with it is Mercury, Venus Retrograde, Vesta, and the North Node. Generally, this would be a time chock full of social interactions, parties, events, abundant information swapping - but what do we do with this energy when we can’t enjoy such pleasures? A new kind of relationship-building is essential. Connections must be made, but with great care and consideration for the safety of all involved. Thirsty for knowledge, this is a time to seek new sources of it. In need of intellectual stimulation, this is the time to find friends, authors, and teachers who can challenge us.
Square Mars, this New Moon has the potential to get us into trouble. Conflicting needs will demand our attention and compassion. Focus continues to elude those of us adjusting to new routines at home. Argumentative energies may dominate our timelines. The ruler of this lunation, Mercury, is in the incredibly charming position of sitting with beauty-bringer Venus, but in a detrimental square to cloudy, confused Neptune, and so we know that not much is going to be immediately solved, straightforward, or clear. Best to work on things that don’t rely on precision, facts, details, or decision making and instead put our energy toward enhancing what in our lives is beautiful, inspiring, and healing.
The Full Moon and penumbral lunar eclipse in Sagittarius occurs on June 5. Visible in Asia, Australia, Europe, and Africa, this is a visually mild eclipse, but the first one in a series that will take place in Sagittarius over the next couple of years. Ushering us into an eclipse season that lasts into July, this eclipse is an appetizer for the main events. In an exact square to Mars, this Moon signals something challenging for us to work through (again). From New Moon to Full Moon, Mars is present, poking at our weaknesses. Conflicts can feel ever-present yet elusive to work through with this kind of set up. Happening days after Venus retrograde squares Mars, relationship dynamics and needs are teased out and then magnified with this lunation.
Venus is retrograde through the entirety of this lunar cycle. One of the most important pieces of 2020’s astrology, Venus retrogrades through the same part of the sky and our charts every eight years. That means that this Venus retrograde picks up on a relationship theme that we experienced back in 2012. Circling around again, we are given the opportunity to more consciously connect with a certain part of our lives and ourselves. In Gemini, a sign known for its need to exchange data and be constantly on the go, we are challenged to find new outlets for our interpersonal needs.
Mercury stations retrograde on June 18 and will skulk backward through the skies until July 12. Occurring days before a visually stunning eclipse on June 20, the end of June brings about defining complications. This Mercury Retrograde is already a challenge, but with eclipses involved, the impact is even wilder.
